Welcome to LEXICA
Centre of European Languages
Lexica is a well-established language school located in Saint Petersburg, the cultural capital of Russia. We are committed to providing the highest quality of foreign language tuition in a friendly and welcoming environment.
Where are we?
Lexica has schools at two locations. One is in the historic centre of the city - near the Moscow railway station. It is conveniently located a few minutes walk from a metro station Mayakovskaya. The second is located in the north of the city near Pioneerskaya metro station.Who do we teach?
Lexica has classes for all levels and requirements. Many of our students are young adults who come to the schools for general English and exam preparation courses. A typical class will have six to eight students. Classes are offered morning, afternoon and in the evenings.
We also offer individual tuition and teach corporate clients ‘in-company’. We have special classes for Teenagers, Children and Very Young Learners (from 5 years old).
What do we teach?
Our classes are varied. Very popular are the “General English” classes from Starter to Advanced levels. Before being assigned to a class all students are tested for their level and allotted to a class of the appropriate level. Another major part of our curriculum is exam preparation classes such as FCE, CAE, IELTS, and BEC among others.
Business English, conversation and individual programs are all also an option for any student of English. We also operate a Saturday “English-Club” conversation class, no grammar, just talk!
In addition, Lexica offers classes in other European languages, primarily German, Italian, and Spanish but occasionally in other languages such as French, Portuguese and possibly other depending on demand.
How do we teach?
Most classes use a course book as the base for a given class. These books are usually based on the Communicative Method, which means the focus is on acquiring fluent and effective use of the language.
We encourage our teachers to use their initiative and experience to adjust the classes to the particular needs of the students. Lexica is equipped with a comprehensive library of materials designed to supplement the course books with extra drill in grammar, conversation, vocabulary, listening, writing and fun! The schools are equipped with audiovisual equipment including televisions, DVD players, CD-Cassette players, computers and Internet access.
Looking for work?
Lexica employs ‘Native Speakers’ of English from around the world, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Applicants should have a qualification that includes teaching practice (TEFL, CELTA, DELTA, etc.) or two years teaching experience. A clean and respectable appearance is appropriate, but you do not need to wear a suit to class. All new teachers of any background are subject to a face-to-face or telephone interview and subsequent in-class observation by the Director of Studies.
Lexica can help with accommodation, visas and the necessary documentation for our contract teachers. We encourage professional development and provide a supportive and friendly environment for new and experienced teachers alike.
